Westworld Season 3 Episode 4 Review
Westworld Season 3 Episode 4 is a full episode of many little things to unpack and a bunch of questions answered and not in the ways that most people were expecting.
Maeve and Serac are in a bar where once again, Serac attempts to convince Maeve to help him get Dolores so he can get access to the gate. He tells a story of how his home in France was destroyed and that there is nothing left. This suggests that the world may be more dystopian then we could have imagined. Serac takes her to a familiar location in the city where Dolores appears to have recreated herself and others. He has captured the man who had helped Dolores do this and gets the information out of him as for where Maeve needs to start looking.
Dolores and Caleb make a move to drain the bank account of Liam Dempsey. It becomes clear toward the end of the episode that the reason they are clearing out bank accounts and massive amounts of wealth is to take Delos private and protect it against Serac who is attempting a hostile buyout of the company.
It's after this that they head to a wealthy party either to follow Liam Dempsey or to keep an eye on Bernard and Stubbs who have also mad their way into the party in order to kidnap Liam. This makes me think that Dolores is able to track Bernard similar to how Serac is able to track Maeve. Bernard and Stubbs fail to get Liam as Caleb runs to chase him down.
Around the same time Maeve hunts down who helped create Dolores to the Yakusa who happens to be lead by the host Musashi. But Maeve quickly discovers that even though the host body is Musashi, the mind is Dolores. They begin to fight and Musashi/Dolores defeats Maeve. She reaches to take the core of Maeve but is to late and realizes that indeed Serac is tracking Maeve.
The main interest to the episode to me comes from Williams part of the story. He is seeing ghosts of his daughter that he killed last season believing her to be a host. The host Charlotte meets him at his house. He has become nervous wreak. Charlotte needs him to go into Delos and convince the board to take the company public. After some convincing, he agrees. Right about the time they leave Charlotte informs William cryptically that she has been spying on his delusions and that she is not Charolett at all but Dolores as well. This cause William to flip out and Charlotte/Dolores declares him insane and that upon being committed to a halfway house, his control goes to the acting president of the company which happens to be her.
The episode closes out with Dolores speaking to William in the halfway house and she says that he can ask her what his big question is. He says "Am I myself" and Dolores says "Welcome to the end of the game." I think this could either mean that William is in the last steps of him becoming a sentient host copy of William, or that Dolores is just making matters worse for him and forcing him to ponder over it until he dies.
Now, Dolores is confirmed to have split herself into multiple hosts. Can we assume that each of these pearls were all just copies of herself? or does she have even more still? This episode was really well done. I am super excited for what the rest of the season has in store for us. There are a lot of ramifications now going forward. Delos is close to complete control by Dolores. Serac and Maeve failed the initial attempt to bring Dolores in. It's shaping up to be a great season going forward.
