How To Read The Wheel Of Time Series
/The Wheel of time is an epic adventure written by Robert Jordan with later writing credits to Brandon Sanderson. Over this series of 14 books and a prequel there is so many characters and locations. But the length of the series itself can be daunting. Today we will be going over the order to read the Wheel of Time. We will also let you know when we believe it’s best to read the prequel to the series.
The Recommended Reading Order for Wheel of Time
Even through the series is long with 14 books and 1 prequel, the order to read them is actually relatively simple.
The Eye of the World
The Great Hunt
The Dragon Reborn
The Rising Shadows
The Fires of Heaven
Lord of Chaos
A Crown of Swords
The Path of Daggers
Winter’s heart
Crossroads of Twilight
Knife of Dreams
The Gathering Storm
Towers of Midnight
A Memory of Light
This is the order the books were written in and should you want to read the series all the way through is the recommended order for them. If you read this entire series including the prequel, you will have read 11,898 pages. (Different prints of the book vary in length) and according to word counter, the entire length of the series comes out to 4,410,036 words!
Where Does New Spring Fit Into The Wheel of Time?
New Spring is the prequel to the entire series, if you desired to read the entire series in chronological order, this would be the first stop. However, We recommend that you read this book in the middle of the series. Reading New Spring after Crossroads of Twilight we believe is the best time to read the book.
The reason for this is that New Spring with the context of the series up unto that point adds to the reading experience of the book and is a nice break in the current run of the series. The story is short but really adds some context to the characters that are introduced throughout the series and is still very much worth the read.
I do not like to make many comparisons, but New Spring is like the Hobbit is to the Lord of the Rings series.
If you want to get this book as a part of the series box set, it comes with the last two books in the series, however you can get it as the standalone adventure that it is as well.
The Final Trilogy Prequels
This was a surprise to me, it’s not talked of by many others that have read the series. But there actually 3 prequel audio books for the last three books in the series.
What the Storm Means - The Gathering Storm
Distinctions - Towers of Midnight
By Grace and Banners Fallen - A Memory of Light
What Is Next For Wheel of Time?
There are currently no plans to expand out the series. But that could be subject to change as the series on Amazon Prime shows promise to keep the interest in the series going. Personally, I hope that the series ends right where it’s at today, with no need to add any additional works, prequels or sequels to the series. What are your thoughts?
