Candlekeep Mysteries Announced for Dungeons & Dragons
/Wizards of the Coast has announced the next book that will be released for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition called Candlekeep Mysteries. This book will be the first of it’s kind taking on a large assortment of mystery adventures using the 5th edition ruleset.
Candlekeep Mysteries will contain 17 small adventures. That’s right, 17 of them! These will be designed for one shot sessions that dungeon masters can either run as one shot sessions, or to add to their existing campaign settings on the sword coast or their own campaign adventures.
In this way it differs from other books for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition such as the Tales from the Yawning Portal or the Ghosts of the Saltmarsh books that were released prior to this announcement. Each of these books contained a series of campaign settings in them with an attachment to a general area. This book focuses more on small adventures that are good for those 1 hit meetups with friends or online.
It’s the new small campaign approach that will be really exciting to see how it is received with online play of Dungeons & Dragons with systems like Roll20 or D&D Beyond.
Candlekeep Mysteries will be designed for players from level 1-16 so this book will have some good stuff for every level of player group.
According to the press release from Wizards of the Coast: Candlekeep attracts scholars like a flame attracts moths. Historians, sages, and others who crave knowledge flock to this library fortress to peruse its vast collection of books, scribbled into which are the answers to the mysteries that bedevil them. Many of these books contain their own mysteries—each one a doorway to adventure. Dare you cross that threshold?
Candlekeep Mysteries is a collection of seventeen short, stand-alone D&D adventures designed for characters of levels 1-16. Each adventure begins with the discovery of a book, and each book is the key to a door behind which danger and glory await. These adventures can be run as one-shot games, plugged into an existing Forgotten Realms campaign, or adapted for other campaign settings.
This book also includes a poster map of the library fortress and detailed descriptions of Candlekeep and its inhabitants.
